USO (United Services Organization)

The USO (United Service Organizations Inc.) is a non-profit organization providing programs, services and entertainment to United States military and military families.

Established in 1941, the group works in partnership with the Department of Defense (DOD), and relies on private contributions from indiviuals and corporate donors. Althougha Congressionally chartered organization, it is not an agency of the US government. In 2013, the USO operated 160 centers around the world.

At Houston Hobby Airport, the USO maintains an exclusive lounge at the Central Councourse, one level below Gate 44.

The Hobby Airport USO lounge facility caters to troops and military family members transiting through Houston, providing "a touch of home" atmosphere to convey the American public's appreciation for members of the US military.

The USO lounge amenities include free Internet and e-mail access, video gaming room, kitchen, TV, lounge chairs, reading room, and children's play area.

USO volunteers assist with travel arrangements and information on local services, as well as programs offered by the surrounding military support community.

Additionally, the HOU USO Center facilitates the USO's Families of the Fallen program, escorting family members along the route of the dignified transfer of fallen service members.
