CLEAR, which specializes in airport security systems using " biometric identity services", has announced that it will install kiosks to provide "expedited traveler" services at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in 2013.
The company claims that Houston travelers who subscribe to their service should be able to move through airport security in about 5 minutes, using automated fingerprint or iris scanners to confirm their identities.
Three popular destinations from IAH (Denver, San Francisco & Dallas) and HOU (Dallas, Denver, Orlando) already offer CLEAR's identity checking service, and San Antonio airport is due to be added to the list in August, 2013.
The CLEAR network and identity technology is certified by the Department of Homeland Security as Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology. Members of the network pay an annual fee of $179 to be pre-cleared, and then identify themselves at airports by use of biometrics (fingerprint or iris) at security checkpoints. Members can add their spouse or partner for an additional $50, plus access is free for children under 18. Additional discounts are available for military and corporate travelers.
